The flagstick must not be removed from the hole or touched with anything other than a club. In circumstances where the flagstick is leaning towards a player prior to putting e.g. strong winds may have caused the flagstick to lean, it may be centred in the hole by use of a club. Bunkers Because of the non-use of rakes preferred lies may be taken by placing the ball in the bunker within 6 inches of where it comes to rest, not near the hole, the sand must not be smoothed prior to placing the ball.
