WREXHAM GOLF CLUB
WINTER NEWSLETTER
November 2009
Dear Member,
As well as this Newsletter, you will find your Renewal notice for your annual subscription and a Members Survey which we really would like you to take the time to fill in.
Existing as we do in a Market Economy, we were made acutely aware of the need to keep up with present market trends; therefore we are again asking you to fill in the member’s survey form you now find in your envelope.
If you would be so kind as to complete the survey and hand it back to the office, your name will be entered into a draw to be made in the clubhouse on Christmas Eve using the Random Number Selector. The winner will receive a credit of £100 on their Blue Swipe Card for the purchase of food and beverages behind the Bar.
Administration and Information Technology.
Our Secretary/Manager Mr. Richard West has now been with us for eight months, and I am pleased to inform you that the Management Board has confirmed his permanent appointment, and hope we enjoy a long partnership together.
Our on-line booking system seems to have bedded in, now that we have a commercial server installed at no extra charge by our I.T. support company “Taurus”.
The club is now moving towards electronic communication to reduce the postal costs, therefore it is essential that we have your e-mail address for the system to operate successfully, so please provide us with this information on the Survey Form or by e-mail to the office on info@wrexhamgolfclub.co.uk. Being aware of Data protection, this will remain confidential on the club’s data base. This information will not be released to any other persons or organisations. Those of you who do not have a computer, or access to one, will still receive correspondence via the traditional postal system.
Regarding your annual subscription, you can continue to pay by Direct Debit over a period of ten months starting in February and running through to November, or the full amount in January by Direct Debit, as this saves the club Bank Charges as handling cash and cheques becomes quite expensive.
If however you are already participating in the Direct Debit system as described above, then you need do nothing, as the amount will be automatically adjusted for the 2010 season.
The General Committee
Chaired by Mrs. Anne Roberts who has been very busy with the catering side of the business. The current Bar Menu is being revised for the winter months and will show a small price increase to cover the increase in VAT which will be introduced in January 2010. To help off-set this, the Management Board have agreed to increase the members discount to 15%.
We are currently looking at quotations for ventilating the gent’s toilet in the foyer in readiness for a renovation in 2010.
The hire of the club for private functions has been very successful this year, and it has been agreed to waive the hire charge for members.
It is anticipated that when the trophy cabinet has been re-located, we will start the Sunday Carvery and is expected to feature more and more in our social functions.
The Development Committee
with Mr. Myles Roberts in charge who has been busy with the Road development amongst many other things. There was a public enquiry which commenced on 5th October and had only two objections, but since then the objections have been withdrawn. The outcome of the enquiry is expected to be known in spring 2010 with an October 2010 start should matters progress as planned.
The membership remains very stable. We continue to receive applications for membership albeit offset by a small number of resignations.
The committee is also currently looking at improving the practice facilities in this coming year.
Course Committee
This committee is chaired by Mr. Chris Marsden and you all must agree that the green staff under the leadership of Mr. Ian Gibson have presented the golf course in a consistently excellent condition this year.
Now the golfing season is over we are beginning our winter programme. You will see that some tees are being extended where possible to share the ware more evenly during our busy periods, and will allow anyone who chooses to play a slightly longer course. Members will also have the opportunity to play a shorter course with possibly two yellow tee box positions.
During this period, we are looking to develop the putting green towards the existing lawn creating a level surface retained by a dwarf wall.
It is intended to replace the wood chip paths with ‘Redway’ crushed tile material over a longer period.
Social Committee
Chaired by the Vice Captain Mr. Keith Miller.
We are fast approaching the Christmas period and the events that require your co-operation in reserving tickets and so forth.
The sheet for the Childrens’ Christmas Party will be placed in the foyer on the social notice board on Friday, 4th December and can be filled in from that day. The age range is from a child’s third birthday until their ninth birthday. They will be entertained by Professor Humo and the children must have an immediate relative such as parent or grandparent as a member of the club. The programme will start at 1.30pm.
The Sherry Party is on Sunday 20th December and reservations will be taken for the lunch after the Sherry Party itself. Members of the social committee will be taking reservations on Saturday 5th December in the main Lounge from 11.00a.m. We are going to ask you what approximate time you would like to sit down to dine from 1.00 p.m. It will be a three course traditional Christmas lunch at a cost of £10.00.
The New Years Eve tickets will be on sale on Saturday 12th December at 11.00 a.m. in the Lounge at a cost of £22.50 including champagne at midnight. Dress code is evening dress, and the event is
open to members only. The round tables will again be in action with three tables of twelve and the remainder in tens or less. This event is limited to one hundred and twenty members.
Finally, on behalf of the President, Ladies’ President, Ladies’ Captain, Management Board and all the staff, may we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New year?
With best wishes,
Tony Brunyee
Captain
