News 28th September 2010

Last Sunday was the turn of Wrexham golf club to timetable the finals of their matches during the day and then to hold the presentation evening for the day’s winners, as well as those which had been contested as one off events during the summer months.

The day was eminently suited to the event with bright sunshine and little wind and the final match returned to the clubhouse at a little after 6.00 p.m. giving the organizers time to establish the order for the later presentation.

The order of events was predetermined many years ago and little has changed in the meantime with the Juniors receiving their awards first, the Ladies and the Mixed next, and then the Gentlemen towards the end. The Junior awards were presented by Junior Treasurer Andrew Lloyd, the ladies by Ladies’ Captain Mrs. Ann Davies, and the remainder by the Club Captain, Mr. Keith Miller.

In all the trophies that are named, the winner is mentioned first followed by the runners up. The R. C. Roberts Cup; Jamie Lloyd and Alex Pugh. The Hilda Roberts Trophy; Jamie Lloyd and Matthew Waters. The F. D. Williams Salver; Lewis MacKenzie and Daniel Darlington. The Junior McAlpine; Jordan Williams and Matthew Waters. The Junior Centenary Trophy; Morgan Davies and Lewis MacKenzie. The Ted Clutton Memorial Trophy; Matthew Waters and Sam Higgins. The Graham Williams Trophy; Sam Higgins and Michael Peters.

Both matches exhibited golf of the highest standards as befits winners off two and plus one handicaps respectively. Well done.

The occasion also marked the retirement of R Paul Williams from his position a Chairman of the Match and Handicap Committee. He has served the club in an exemplary manner for many years; his place being taken over for the remainder of the season by Alan Sawford.

Wrexham golf club also played their September Junior medals on the 19th of the month. Winner of the Boys medal was Sam Higgins with 70 – 3 – 67 which saw his handicap drop to two. Second came Michael Peters with 79 – 9 – 70 and in third place, Lewis MacKenzie with 94 – 23 – 71.
