My opening comments this week refer to the sadness experienced at Wrexham Golf Club when in the space of just five days, we lost no less than five gentlemen members of the club who passed away between Friday and Tuesday.
The older, more mature members may not have been so well known in recent months, but the loss of George McGowan, Ron Jenks, Ralph Lawson, Baden Hughes and Eric Nicholls affected each and every member
in different ways, at least every single deceased known to the majority of members within their various peer groups.
George McGowan was perhaps the most involved with club life, being also the Coach to Wrexham Football Club’s Youth teams. He rarely missed a competition and played off between a nine and eleven handicap as the season permitted. Other writers have paid compliment in footballing terms through our sister paper “The Leader”, but I would like to express sincere condolences to the families and friends of all our lost colleagues.
This weeks results commence with the Christmas Fayre Mixed Greensome at Wrexham when in all cases the leader board featured married couples. Winners were Alan and Jane Prandle with net 68 followed by Club Captain Tony Brunyee and wife Janet with 69.
Peter and Janet Brand came in third place with the better of two net 70’s, the other score card belonging to Ian and Elaine Darlington for fourth place
