Congratulations are extended to the new officers of the Wrexham Ladies’ section as a result of the annual general meeting held a week ago last Wednesday. Mrs Eileen Graham retired a Ladies’ Captain to be succeeded by Mrs Anne Davies whose one year vice Captaincy has been adopted by Mrs Janet Brunyee, wife of the present captain of the club, Mr Tony Brunyee. Ladies’ president Mrs Mary Potts has one year remaining of her two year tenure.
The ladies section are also delighted to recognize the success of two of their younger players who have gained international honours. Chloe Williams and Jessica Jones have been selected for the Welsh Girls team to play against
Scotland at Strathmore golf club in Perthshire in April. Chloe played at under sixteen and under eighteen levels last season so it is a particular credit to have two girls from the same club in the four selected players to compete in this event.
Still with the ladies, a GUW medal was held on Sunday the 7th March which resulted in a Bronze division win for Gayle Elson with 97 – 24 – 73 followed by Jacqui Williams on 106 – 25 – 81. There were just four entries in the competition.
That all changed the following Tuesday when thirty one players competed in the next GUW medal event. Winning the silver division came Janet Lloyd with 84 – 20 – 64 followed by Wendy Roberts with 88 – 14 – 74.
The Bronze group was won by Mary Bainbridge on 95 – 21 – 74, and she in turn was followed by
S Hopley with 96 – 22 – 74 on a card scrutiny for rank order.
Next Wednesday the club holds its annual general meeting commencing at 7.30 in the main clubhouse.
