Wrexham golf club held their President’s Day last Saturday with a field of over one hundred and seventy ladies and gentlemen contesting the event. Played off random starting times with ladies and gentlemen players moving off in any combination, the event was an Individual Stableford off full handicap with the last starting times out at 3,15 p.m. to enable Match and Handicap to determine the winners ready for the prize presentation at 8.00 p.m.
Early starter Barry Wright soon set the pace with a 42 point card, only for it to be equalled by Kin Kwok Lee a little later, but it was left to Craig Paul Matthews to win the President’s prize with an excellent 43 points off 20 handicap which saw him drop two strokes from his handicap.
Janet Sharley took the ladies prize with 39 points, just beating Jacqueline L. Williams by the single point with Jane Mullett Prandle in third place on 37
As Club President for 2010/2011, I was delighted to see just under one hundred members supporting the evening function at a time when so many are away on holiday, so through this column may I thank all who expressed their good wishes by greetings cards and personal comments, and to the jazz trio “Tribeca” who entertained us with standards and classics throughout the evening.
